Han Kang, a South Korean author, received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature for her poetic prose. This makes Kang the first author from South Korea and the first Asian woman to receive this award. Kang is known for her books such as ‘The Vegetarian’ and ‘Human Acts’. Her work is centred around several important themes including grief and violence and she is recognised for her unique writing style. She was awarded the International Man Booker Prize for ‘The Vegetarian’ in 2016. Kang, who resides in Seoul, was born in Gwangju, South Korea. Her father Han Seung-won is also a novelist.
