It was all very lonely.
I longed for someone desperately.
To talk to fondly
To tease me naughtily
To keep me rooted strictly
I needed someone friendly!
I trudged along my life grudgingly.
With my teachers, classmates and mother, I was grumpy
I did my homework frettingly
As I was always doing my work distractedly
I needed someone friendly!
Then came the time
When we went in our jalopy
To make the bookings timely
For the upcoming festivity
But I still needed someone friendly!
On the destined day, we set out to get him excitedly
We got him home in a veil while shouting ‘Morya’ energetically
Everywhere there was a flurry of activity
There were fruits, garlands and sweets in plenty
A throne apt for a king was also ready, along with a golden canopy
But I still needed someone friendly!
Our ‘Guruji’ told us to unveil the idol timely
And to summon the God through prayers befittingly
Together, we sang the hymns melodiously
And rang the bells merrily
But I still needed someone friendly!
And then it happened, he peeped at me mischievously
He watched through his small eyes intently
The sight of his minuscule mouse carrying his massive form was funny
But I refrained from being giggly
I remembered he did not like mockery
Could he be someone friendly?
I looked at him admiringly.
His appearance, with his big ears and the long trunk, was rather stately
Everybody bowed before him devotionally
It is said he takes away everyone’s problems in a jiffy
In all forms of performing arts, he has a mastery
He could definitely be someone friendly!
When all were gone, I sat close to him affectionately
He listened to all I had to tell him patiently
While I laid my head on his lap, he patted my back softly
And then, in my ears, he whispered gently
My dear, I am here to be your someone friendly!
