The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KSO) in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, celebrated its 125th anniversary on April 1. The observatory’s anniversary was celebrated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), the institution that currently operates it.
On the occasion, the KSO 125 logo was revealed by the former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and chairperson of the Governing Council of the IIA, AS Kiran Kumar.
The event included the felicitation of KSO’s scientists, the recognition of the organisation’s history and the celebration of its milestones.
Established in 1899, KSO has over 1.2 lakh digitised images of the sun, which have been recorded daily ever since it was set up.
