The Delhi government has planned to introduce a 10-minute mini snack break in all city schools in order to tackle the problem of malnutrition in children. This break will be scheduled 2.5 hours before the lunch break and students will have to carry snacks according to a weekly planner made by the school, which will include healthy food items such as peanuts, sprouts, salads and fruits. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed schools to conduct counselling sessions so that home science teachers can provide advice to parents and guardians of students on the importance of a healthy diet and its effect on students’ overall development and academic performance.
