
To be a ship captain you need to:
- Complete your bachelor’s degree in science with physics, maths and chemistry.
- Clear your Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET).
- Take the licensing examination that includes subjects like navigation, cargo management and ship construction.
- Secure a license to become a deck officer or third mate on-board a ship.
- Grow in the hierarchy from third mate to second mate to chief mate to ship captain by clearing several examinations and training schedules.
