Ship Captain

What you need to do to build a career as a ship captain.

To be a ship captain you need to:

  • Complete your bachelor’s degree in science with physics, maths and chemistry. 
  • Clear your Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET). ˜ 
  • Take the licensing examination that includes subjects like navigation, cargo management and ship construction.
  • Secure a license to become a deck officer or third mate on-board a ship.
  • Grow in the hierarchy from third mate to second mate to chief mate to ship captain by clearing several examinations and training schedules.
