Sheena Rani is a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist who headed the first flight test of the Agni- 5 missile, an indigenously developed long-range missile that has Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. The flight test of the missile, which will boost India’s strategic defence capabilities, successfully took place on March 11. The 57-year-old was the programme director for Agni-5 and played a vital role in the development of the missile project. Rani, who holds a degree in electronics and communication engineering, was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She worked at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala for eight years and became part of DRDO in 1999. At DRDO, she made significant contributions to the organisation’s Agni series of missiles.
