Shaktikanta Das, the former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor, has been named the second principal secretary to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the government of India. Das, a 1980-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will work together with Pramod Kumar Mishra, who holds the position of the first principal secretary to the prime minister. Das has extensive knowledge of taxation, governance and finance, with experience working in state governments and the central government, and has contributed significantly to the development of multiple union budgets. Das was the 25th governor of the RBI, holding the position from 2018 to 2024.
