A recent survey conducted by the Karnataka government revealed that almost 34,411 children between the ages of six and 16 are out of school. The highest number is from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) area. In a door-to-door survey, it was found that the reasons behind this include financial problems, health and family-related issues. The survey also noted that many children between the ages of 14 and 16 had dropped out of school to pick up jobs to support their families due to the COVID-19 crisis. The data collected will be used by officials at taluka and block levels to meet parents and take measures to ensure schooling is continued.
