Sattu Sandwich

Sattu is nothing but roasted chana flour. It is known as the poor man’s protein as it is a cheap and easy-to-use protein-rich ingredient. This dish is very similar to a bread pakoda, except that it has sattu flour instead of gram flour and paneer instead of a potato filling.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 5 tablespoons paneer, crumbled
  • 4 tablespoons green chutney
  • ½ cup sattu
  • 2 tablespoons suji (rawa or semolina)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons curd
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander
  • 4 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 4 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon chilli flakes
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon grated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 tablespoon oil

METHOD

  • Mix the paneer and chutney and keep it aside.
  • In a bowl, add the sattu, suji, water and curd and mix well. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Add the chopped coriander, onions, tomatoes, salt, oregano, chilli flakes, green chilli, garlic and chaat masala to the paneer and mix well.
  • Stuff the paneer and chutney mix in between the 2 slices of bread. Cut the sandwich diagonally.
  • Heat a pan and smear it with oil.
  • Smear the sattu paste on 1 side of both the sandwich halves and place that side on the pan. Cook till the sattu is done.
  • Now cover the other side of the bread with sattu and flip it on the pan to cook that side too.
  • Serve hot with green chutney.
