Clear images of the San Jose galleon shipwreck, which was discovered in 2015, have been revealed. The galleon, which is believed to have been carrying billions of dollars’ worth of treasure, was sunk by the British near the city of Cartagena in Colombia in 1708. Video and images captured 3,100ft underwater show pottery, gold coins, porcelain crockery and cannons lying on the sea floor. As the ship, which has been hidden underwater for three centuries, was carrying one of the greatest amounts of valuables to have been lost at sea, it has been described as ‘the holy grail of shipwrecks’. Two other wrecks, a boat and a schooner, have also been discovered close to the galleon.
