- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a Safe School Project in order to make roads and footpaths around the periphery of schools in Mumbai safe for children.
- Footpaths around schools will be reengineered, zebra crossings will be marked in bright colours and road markings will get a fresh coat of paint.
- The BMC is also planning to add road signage and improve the traffic infrastructure on the periphery of roads that house schools such that the footpaths have more walking space.
- It is working towards removing old bus stops and placing newly designed bus shelters, which will help remove encroachments from footpaths close to schools.
- In some spots, the level of the footpaths will also be matched to that of the road to make it wheelchair friendly.
