The United States Senate confirmed Roopali Desai to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in August. This makes Desai the first South Asian American judge to serve on this court. Desai has 16 years of experience as a litigator. She has worked as a clerk for the first woman to serve as chief judge of the Ninth Circuit, Mary Schroeder. The Ninth Circuit is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and is one of the largest of the 13 courts of appeals, covering a total of nine states and two territories with 29 active judgeships.
