Taking inspiration from dandelion seeds, scientists at Tampere University in Finland have innovated a small 1.2mg soft-bodied robot that can fly with the help of wind and light and be controlled by a light-emitting diode (LED) or laser beam. These robots could be used as artificial pollinators.
The robot has two wings with extremely thin bristles that move when controlled by light. Light can also be used to modify the robot’s shape, allowing it to adjust to the direction of the wind and control its landing and take-off.

More than 3,00,000 species of invertebrates, including moths and flies, carry out pollination.
