Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Germany have developed a tiny magnetic robot that can swim inside the human body. The robot’s movements within the human body resemble those of an animal and its design takes inspiration from the overlapping scales of a pangolin. These shape-shifting robots, measuring 1cm×2cm×0.2mm, can be used for administering medication and provide targeted heat to areas such as the intestines and stomach. These robots can also be utilised for minimally invasive medical procedures, drug delivery, managing bleeding and cancer treatment.

Pangolins are more closely related to dogs and cats than to anteaters, sloths and armadillos.
