India saw a rapid increase in the number of H3N2 influenza cases starting from the middle of December 2022.
The H3N2 virus is a sub-type of the influenza A virus and leads to respiratory infection.
Symptoms of the virus include sore throat, fever, coughing, sneezing, vomiting, headache, body ache and a runny nose.
The virus spreads through close contact with an individual infected by the virus, sneezing, coughing or touching the surface of an object that has the virus and then touching the face.
As the disease can spread at a fast rate, doctors have advised individuals to avoid crowded public places, wash their hands regularly, wear a mask when necessary, avoid touching their face with dirty hands, stay hydrated and consume nutritious food.
