Scientists at Columbia Engineering, USA, have used yoghurt to create a gel that can repair tissue. Developed from extracellular vesicles (EV) present in yoghurt, this gel is capable of supporting the healing of tissue and acting like natural tissue. EVs are small particles that are discharged by cells and play a vital role in helping cells communicate. When tested on mice, scientists found that the gel encouraged the healing of tissue and blood vessel development. This technology has the potential to treat wounds without the use of chemicals.
