Adani Group will redevelop Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slums, and provide residents with better amenities. Located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Dharavi covers 640 acres.
As per Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL), a partnership between the government of Maharashtra and the Adani Group, residents of the slum eligible for free flats will receive flats measuring at least 350sq ft, which is 17% more than what is normally offered for such projects.
Those residing in tenements in Dharavi before January 1, 2000, would be eligible for free flats. The Adani Group has begun collecting biometric data and other important information from around 10 lakh residents of the slum to ascertain residents’ eligibility.
The redeveloped flats will include a toilet, a kitchen and other facilities. The redeveloped property will be equipped with numerous amenities such as gardens, dispensaries and places for recreation.
Ineligible residents will be provided with houses on a rental basis under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
