A swimmer named Merle Liivand set the Guinness World Record for swimming approximately 48kms across Biscayne Bay in Miami, USA. She completed the distance in 14 hours and 15 minutes. With this feat, she broke the previous record she set in 2022 for the farthest swim with a monofin at 42.19kms. Liivand collected around 9kgs of waste during her swim. She is known for promoting ocean conservation through her swimming feats. She has earned the nickname ‘Eco Mermaid’ and ‘Mermaid Merle’ as she swims wearing a monofin, which looks like a mermaid’s tail.
