Reading Riding Hood

Akira Singh Rana, Class 4, J.B Petit High School For Girls, Mumbai

Once, my friend Reading Riding Hood and I went to meet her grandmother, who lived in the forest of Jibhi, to borrow some books. My friend Reading Riding Hood had bright, curious eyes and wavy chestnut hair peeking out from her red cloak. Wearing a dress with a lace trim underneath and sturdy brown boots, she was ready for our adventure. Always carrying a woven basket filled with treats and books, she wore a warm smile that reflected her adventurous spirit.
Early the next morning, started our journey into the forest. The forest was dense, filled with tall pine trees, sparkling waterfalls, and mysterious wild beasts. In the middle of our journey, I spotted some lovely mushrooms. As I bent down to pluck one, Boom! There was a loud sound. I looked up and saw a gargantuan, grey-haired beast with sharp teeth, long ears, and scary-looking eyes. The beast held a sign that read, “NO PLUCKING MUSHROOMS.” I was horrified, but my friend Reading Riding Hood was bold enough to shake his hand and ask if he liked reading books. As expected, the answer was no. She invited him to join us, but the beast grumpily declined the invitation and faded into the trees. Reading Riding Hood felt sad, but we continued walking.
After a while, we reached her grandmother’s house. The house was painted shocking pink and had lovely neon flowers adorning it. Reading Riding Hood’s grandmother was a book lover and had eight cupboards full of books. Reading Riding Hood felt disheartened that no one loved reading anymore and many didn’t even know how to read.
Suddenly, an idea popped into my head, and I jumped with excitement. I whispered my idea to Reading Riding Hood. When she heard it, she also started jumping with joy. “What a brilliant idea!” she exclaimed. “What is the idea?” asked her grandmother.“The idea is to build a library where we can teach animals how to read and show them how important reading is and that it is a lot of fun to read!”
“Bravo!” said grandmother, swinging on her rocking chair with glee. “Let’s start building it!”Reading Riding Hood then screamed, “Help! Help!” There was a woodcutter nearby who heard her yell and came in a jiffy. The woodcutter asked how he could help. I said, “Oh woodcutter, can you please help us by cutting down the dead trees in the forest?” He agreed and helped us. After gathering the wood, Reading Riding Hood and I worked day and night to construct the library. It took us three months and six days to complete it. The library had countless books to read and teach from. Finally, our library was ready! Animals and people came to learn about the importance and joy of reading together . From that day on, we changed the world through books. Whenever I wanted to borrow books, I visited the library in the forest of Jibhi.
