India’s New Defence Secretary

Rajesh Kumar Singh, an experienced bureaucrat, assumed charge as the new defence secretary of India on November 1.

Rajesh Kumar Singh, an experienced bureaucrat, assumed charge as the new defence secretary of India on November 1. He succeeded Giridhar Aramane, who held the post previously. Singh, who is a Kerala cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1989 batch, has served in various important capacities during his career. His roles within the government include serving as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Singh had been working in the role of defence secretary-designate since August 20 before he took up his new role.
