Cardboard Rainstick

Make your own colourful rainstick using simple materials and enjoy creating the soothing sound of falling rain.

MATERIALS

  • 3 tissue rolls
  • Tape
  • 5 satay sticks
  • Handful of grains or pulses
  • Chart paper in yellow and pink
  • Blue ribbon
  • Crayons

METHOD

  • Use tape to stick the 3 tissue rolls together to create a long, hollow pipe.
  • Cut 2 circles from the pink chart paper large enough to cover the top and bottom of the pipe.
  • Cover an open end of the pipe with the paper.
  • Pierce the pipe with satay sticks at different levels and in different directions.
  • Cut off the portion of the sticks poking out of the pipe and fill the pipe with grains.
  • Cover the second open end of the pipe with the second circle as shown.
  • Cover the entire pipe with the yellow chart paper as shown.
  • Draw brown-coloured vertical lines on your rainstick and then tie blue ribbons on each end.
  • Your rainstick is ready. Shake it to create music.
