Pros and Cons of Air Taxis in Bengaluru

In our November 16 to 30, 2024 issue, we asked you to reflect on the pros and cons of air taxis in Bengaluru.

Nakshathra Reddy P, a class 9 student at National Public School, Bengaluru says,

Pros:

  • Reduces travel time in busy cities such as Bengaluru and Mumbai. Many citizens find it uncomfortable and time consuming to travel from one place to another. Travel also causes carbon emissions (global warming), severe land pollution and noise pollution. Often, long hours of traffic disturb the passenger mentally and take a noticeable toll on their mental health. This can be avoided through air taxis, which can increase human efficiency and human resource development, which in turn contributes to India’s GDP.
  • It also marks the beginning and advancement of a new technological era—a crucial step for India becoming a developed nation from the status of a developing country.
  • Promotes sustainability and aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which are meant to be achieved by 2030.

Cons:

  • There is a higher risk of accidents in the air and may also result in air traffic, like land traffic, if used too much.
  • Indirect cause of unemployment in a country like India; it is a major disadvantage as many people have a primary source of income in driving taxis.
  • Higher manufacturing cost and not feasible for common people.
