To reduce India’s reliance on imports, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) began producing reference fuels in the country for the first time. This initiative has been undertaken in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ mission. Reference fuels have more stringent specification requirements as compared to commercial fuels and they are used by testing agencies and automobile companies for testing vehicles. IOC is catering to domestic demand by producing reference diesel and petrol in its Panipat and Paradip refineries, respectively. The indigenously produced fuel will substitute imports and ensure cost-efficiency.
