American company Yum! Brands has decided to sell popular restaurant chain Pizza Hut after about 30 years, marking the start of a new journey for the brand. The $2.7 billion deal involves selling the business to Yum China Holdings, a restaurant company, and LongRange Capital, a private equity firm. Pizza Hut’s business in mainland China will be acquired by Yum China Holdings for $1.2 billion, while the businesses in other regions of the world will be acquired by LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion. Pizza Hutʼs India business will also be acquired by LongRange Capital. Experts say several factors, including competition from other pizza brands, availability of delivery services and changed consumer behaviours, have caused Pizza Hut to face numerous challenges in the market over the past years.
