Pesarattu: Green Moong Crepes

Pesarattu is a crepe-like breakfast favourite from Andhra Pradesh. It is made using whole green moong dal and spices and is packed with proteins.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole green moong dal
  • 1cm ginger
  • 1 to 2 green chillies
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • Oil for cooking

METHOD

  • Soak the moong dal for 4 to 5 hours or overnight.
  • Then grind it with the ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds and salt. Add water to blend everything together and make a smooth batter.
  • Take the batter out in a bowl, add the rice flour and mix well.
  • Add water to get a dosa batter consistency.
  • On a hot dosa tawa, pour a little bit of oil. Place a ladleful of batter and spread it evenly like a dosa.
  • Cook it well and serve it with chutney or tomato sauce.
