It was the morning of June 21, when I along with my sister were playing with our toys. My mother was preparing our breakfast and my father was getting ready for office. At that time our doorbell rang twice. My mother ran from the kitchen to open the door. To her surprise, my uncle was at the door with his family. My mother greeted them and welcomed them inside the house. I hugged my uncle as soon as I met him. My uncle gave me a gift. I thanked him. I was very happy about their arrival. My father went to the office after our breakfast. My uncle’s family took some rest and my mother did some household chores. We all gathered in the drawing room and had a conversation with each other. I went to my uncle and asked him what his aim in life was when he was a little boy. He explained to me that he always wanted to join the army and serve his motherland. He also added that during that time some of his relatives used to say to him not to join the army, as army job is risky for life. He was good in his studies and sports. Eventually, he grew up and joined the army through his hard work and dedication. He is from Karimganj and from his childhood he has been practicing to join the army. Early in the morning he would go for a run and come back home and study. He appeared for the army entrance exam and one morning he received a letter from the Army office. He opened the letter and shouted in joy that he cleared the exam with flying colours. My grandparents were very happy and proud of him. After telling his life story he paused for a while and asked me my aim in life. I told him that I want to become a Doctor. He wished me best wishes and we all went to have our lunch. I went to my bedroom and lied down and thought about all the hard work, patience and consistency that my uncle had, I learnt a great lesson from him that perseverance is the key to success. There is no shortcut to success.
