Pataabi Raman, a 74-year-old auto driver from Bengaluru, formerly worked as an English professor in a college in Mumbai. His story went viral on social media after Nikita Iyer, a Bengaluru-based professional, shared details of her encounter with him on a LinkedIn post. Iyer was on her way to work when she got stranded in the middle of the highway. Raman came to her rescue. What surprised Iyer was Raman’s impeccable English. Raman then told Iyer that he used to be an English lecturer in a college in Mumbai and holds a Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Education (MEd) degree. He had to work in Mumbai as he was not able to secure a job in Karnataka. He moved back to Karnataka at 60 after working as a lecturer in Mumbai for 20 years. As Raman worked with a private college, he wasn’t entitled to a pension. Thus, he decided to drive an auto. He lives with his 72-year-old wife. Raman revealed that he has a son who helps them pay the rent but apart from that, his wife and he are not dependent on their children for anything.
