Parameswaran Iyer was appointed as the new chief executive officer of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in June. He replaced Amitabh Kant, who retired from the post on June 30. NITI Aayog is the think-tank of India’s government and helps it with important decisions and policymaking. Iyer, who is a 1981-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is well-known for leading the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In 2016, he was appointed as secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. He has also served as a senior rural water sanitation specialist at the United Nations in the United States of America in the past.
