Paper Elephant

World Animal Day is celebrated worldwide on October 4 every year. This day reminds people of the need to protect animals and their natural homes. This day is celebrated on the feast of St Francis of Assisi, who loved animals and nature.

MATERIALS

  • Grey chart paper
  • White chart paper
  • Black pen
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Straw

METHOD

  • Cut 2 equal triangles out of a 24-centimetre square of grey chart paper.
  • Fold the tips of the triangles as shown in the picture.
  • Stick a straw over the folded tip of 1 triangle as shown in the picture.
  • Cut a 5-centimetre-long thick strip of grey chart paper for the trunk and stick it over the straw.
  • Stick the other triangle on top as shown.
  • Fold the corners of the triangles to create the ears.
  • Draw 2 eyes on white chart paper, cut them out and stick them on the triangle.
  • Cut tusks from the white chart paper and stick them next to the trunk as shown.
  • Draw lines on the trunk.
  • Turn the elephant upside down and with the help of a pen or a pencil, roll the trunk as shown.
  • Blow air through the straw to see the trunk unroll.
  • Your elephant is ready!
