Overcoming Childhood Trauma!

Kashisha Goel, Class 10, Chatrabhuj Narsee School, Mumbai

Let me take you back to my early childhood. When I was two years old, I got stuck in a room during a party at my house. People tell me no big deal, but let me tell you, it scarred me for life. I mean, who wouldn’t be traumatized after being trapped in a room for two hours with no one to hear your cries for help except for the loud music? It left me with a deep-seated fear of travelling alone, especially in elevators.

As I grew up, my fear only increased. It was so bad that I couldn’t even go alone in an elevator until sixth grade. My friends would tease me and call me “the elevator scaredy-cat,” which made me feel self-conscious and sorry for myself. One day, something clicked. I realized that if I didn’t face my fear, it would continue to control me for the rest of my life. I said a small prayer, took a deep breath, and stepped into the elevator, all by myself. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. My heart was pounding like crazy, and I felt like I was in a horror movie.

But I did it. And you know what? It felt amazing. Conquering your fears is no small feat, especially when they’ve been with you for as long as you can remember. It takes guts, determination, and a whole lot of humour to overcome them. It’s important to recognize that overcoming these fears is not an easy task, and everyone’s journey is unique. Some people may require professional help, such as therapy or medication, to overcome their fears. It’s crucial to seek help if these fears interfere with one’s daily life.

Sharing stories of overcoming fears can be inspiring and encouraging for others who may be struggling with similar challenges. It shows that with determination, it is possible to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
