The Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy plans to introduce open-book exams for students of classes 8, 9 and 10 to discourage rote learning and promote the habit of reading among them. The exams will be conducted as practice exams to enhance students’ performance in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate exam. Officials believe looking for answers will acquaint students with their syllabus and improve their understanding of different concepts. Based on the department’s Educational Guidelines 2024-2025, schools must conduct 25-mark open book exams for each subject with a time limit.
