My school, a few years ago, was completely online. Finally, we got to do our classes in the comfort of our home. We could eat, sleep, and do whatever we want all day. This is what floats across our mind when one says “ONLINE CLASSES”. The best time of our lives, right? Well, let me tell you, that is not the only thing about learning on your laptop. Online learning has its own pros and cons. In this article, I will talk about the benefits and challenges of ONLINE SCHOOL. Is it really good or bad?
ONLINE SCHOOL: THE PROS
As I mentioned earlier, online school has its advantages. This means more sources and platforms for learning, right in the comfort of our house. With our family by our side, we can do amazing things. Instead of writing, we can TYPE answers, and this saves our hands from going numb. It was the safest option of schooling in the time of COVID- 19, and still shields you from the perils of the outside world, like the common cold. Ugh! And it gets even better for us kids, you can eat in class, sleep in class, watch shows or even miss class, and the teacher won’t even know…Right?
ONLINE SCHOOL: THE CONS
Now that we have gone over the perks, now is the time to discuss the PROBLEMS. Online school means sitting facing the laptop 4 hours a day. This means exposure to UV light, reduced physical activity, eye problems, which mainly lead to lifestyle diseases like obesity. Online classes also mean weaker friendship bonds. The bond you make with the physical classmate is way stronger than an online friendship, as you live nearby and know each other personally and physically. Even if an online friendship is strong, the chances of you meeting that friend is very less likely, which means less time spent together. This leads to harder efforts to maintain friendships.
THE CONS: ADDRESSING THEM
The cons of Online Schooling are a problem faced by many children today, even me. Here are a few ways you can address these challenges.
• Exposure to UV light: One can wear computer glasses which prevent eye exposure. This will help prevent the eye problems one faces due to blue light.
• Outdoor time and physical activity: One must dedicate at least one hour to outdoor activities (whenever the sun is out), and one hour of physical activity per day. For example, I swim and cycle every day. This will help enhance your strength and eyesight.
• Arrange to meet your friends at any point: Do ask your friend to visit a common place that is nearby to both places, anytime. This will help stregthen your bond with them.
IN THE END
In conclusion, Online Learning has both pros and cons. Let’s fight those challenges, and maintain a healthy environment that fosters friendship, learning and creativity together!
