Francesco Rivella, the creator of the popular chocolate and hazelnut spread Nutella, passed away on February 14 at the age of 97. He was born in Barbaresco, Italy, and was popularly known as the Father of Nutella. Early in his career, Rivella began working at Ferrero, the well-known Italian confectionery and chocolate company. There, his role involved creating new products by testing various ingredients. Rivella played an indispensable role in supporting Michele Ferrero, the son of Ferrero’s founder Pietro Ferrero, who took charge of the family business and drove its expansion. Michele Ferrero and Rivella worked together to create Nutella, which has since gained incredible popularity worldwide.
