Chetna Maroo’s debut novel ‘Western Lane’ has been shortlisted for the 2023 Booker Prize in London, UK. The story is about a young British Gujarati girl called Gopi and her relationship with her family. ‘Western Lane’ is among six novels shortlisted for the prize, which will be announced on November 26 at an event in London, UK. Of Indian origin, Maroo was born in Kenya and is currently based in London. She was awarded the 2022 Plimpton Prize for Fiction by the Paris Review, an award that recognises the exceptional work of emerging writers. She worked as an accountant before becoming a writer.
