Bhopal, Indore and Udaipur have been nominated by India for the Wetland City Accreditation (WCA), a scheme under the Ramsar Convention. The Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental treaty that encourages the conservation of wetlands by providing a framework for their protection and use. The wetlands located in and near Bhopal, Indore and Udaipur provide numerous benefits to the cities’ residents. These wetlands create environmental benefits, opportunities to generate income and opportunities for recreation. These are the first three Indian cities that have been nominated for the WCA and this accreditation will provide them international recognition for their conservation efforts.
