The central government has decided to discontinue the ‘no-detention policy’ and reimplement detention for children studying in classes 5 and 8 in its schools. This change involves allowing students who do not clear their year-end exams to appear for a retest in a span of two months. However, failing to clear the examination again will lead them to be detained in the same class. This change will influence numerous schools including Sainik Schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas. However, states have the freedom to decide whether they want to reject the policy or implement it.
