Night of Courage and Camaraderie

Dasamsh Pulicharla, Class 9, The Crossword School, Guntur

Book Reflection I recently read a novel named Wonder, written by R. J. Palacio. The protagonist is August, who has a deformed face. He suffers from Treacherous Collins Syndrome, due to which his face is not symmetrical. He goes to school for the first time in 5th grade. My favourite part of the novel is his class’s nature retreat. At night, during a movie screening, August and his friend, Jack, go into woods to pee. They encounter a gang of boys who bully August. He is called a Gollum and an alien. Jack suggests that they should go away, but other kids are not letting them leave. Then a big guy named Amos, who is also August’s friend, comes to their rescue. He rams into the guy named Eddie like a monster truck, and then the trio escapes. During the fight, August even loses his hearing aids, which cost his family a fortune.
