New Vision for Television

World Television Day, celebrated on November 21, honours the powerful impact television has had on the world. Since its invention, TV has become a vital tool for mass communication, offering everything from cartoons and comedies to sports and global news. Over the years, it has evolved to reflect the tastes of different generations while shedding light on critical global issues. To celebrate the day, SCARLETT RODRIGUES asked a few RobinAgers to create an imaginary TV show. Here’s what they came up with!

I want to make a comedy show based on a family. My show would include characters of all ages and would focus on their interactions and relationships. This would help viewers relate to it and have a good laugh. The show’s storyline would include problems faced by the family and how the family overcomes them. It would also include the happy and funny moments shared by the family. I would promote different themes such as kindness, support and helpfulness through various episodes. It would be a show that families worldwide watch together and connect with. I feel these days family members find it difficult to spend time together due to their busy schedules. So, my show would encourage family members to spend quality time with each other.

I would like to create a television show about different pets and their unique abilities. I love animals; however, I am not allowed to keep pets. Creating this show would help me express my love for animals and learn more about them. I would invite owners of different pets to the show and have them showcase their pets’ unique skills. I would also provide viewers with information about different animal species and their behaviour. This show would be educative and would also encourage people to care for animals. Animals such as dogs and parrots are very intelligent and my pet show would help recognise their talents.

I would like to create a television show that narrates the stories of inspirational industrialists. I have always admired the personalities of industrialists such as Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra. Through the inspiring stories of these elite personalities, I would like to show people that nothing is impossible in the world. This show would provide people with valuable insights into the lives of successful individuals and teach them important life lessons. It would offer entrepreneurs and businesspeople deep knowledge about different industries and help them learn from the experiences of well-established industrialists. It would motivate people to come up with new ideas and push the limits of their imagination. Additionally, it would provide children with role models.

I would create a show that teaches children about scientific concepts in a fun way. I love science, especially physics and chemistry. My show would help children learn science by engaging in easy scientific experiments. This would make difficult concepts simple and fun to understand. It would encourage children to think creatively and help them develop a love for science.

If I were allowed to create my own television show, I would produce a show that promotes sports, especially basketball and football, in India. I would invite National Basketball Association (NBA) professionals to my show to interview them. I would ask them to provide budding athletes with tips and advice that would help them in their careers. I would also invite famous footballers to my show to share their life journeys with viewers. In my opinion, sports deserve a lot more attention than they receives. My show would highlight the importance of sports and provide viewers with rich knowledge.

If I were in a position to make a television show, I would make an inspirational show that involves artists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and billionaires. It would include conversations with these individuals and debates on current issues. Through this show, famous personalities could share their journeys with viewers. Each episode would be centred on topics such as leadership, innovation and global problems. Guests would discuss these topics in depth and would also answer questions asked by viewers. This show would provide the young generation with strategies and valuable advice to assist them in their life’s journey.

ACTIVITY: Reimagine the Idiot Box

If you were asked to redesign the television, what elements would you add to it?
