- To promote inclusivity and awareness about autism among children, toy manufacturer Mattel has introduced an autistic Barbie doll as part of its Barbie Fashionistas line.
- The doll’s design includes body features, accessories and other elements that show how autistic people navigate the world.
- Mattel partnered with Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a body that is managed by autistic individuals and works towards their empowerment, to create the doll.
- The company has already launched dolls depicting disabilities, including dolls with hearing aids and Down syndrome. Through such products, Mattel hopes to encourage children to embrace differences.
