A new type of seaweed has been discovered by scientists 100mts below the Antarctic Ocean’s surface. Scientists at the Rothera Research Station located on Adelaide Island off the southwestern Antarctic Peninsula discovered the seaweed with the help of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
According to scientists, the discovery of the seaweed, Palmaria decipiens, could help improve their understanding and knowledge of the flora of Antarctica. Samples of the seaweed were collected for further examination and scientists believe that there is a possibility for seaweeds to live at greater depths.
