A new species of eel has been found in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal by scientists at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI). The eel is found across the northern part of the Bay of Bengal and has been named Ariosoma Bengalense, after the area it lives in. The species’ samples were collected from the Petuaghat Fishing Harbour. It is brown in colour and has larger eyes as compared to creatures of the same genus. Scientists plan on listing the discovery of this new species along with ZSI’s other biodiversity discoveries next year.
