Popular economist Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as India’s Executive Director at the World Bank, a crucial and prestigious position. In this capacity, Mishra will serve as India’s representative at the bank and will also be involved in the bank’s functioning. As part of the bank’s board, he will contribute to significant economic and policy-related decisions. Previously, Mishra has held several key posts, including chief economist at Axis Bank, head of global research at Axis Capital and managing director at Credit Suisse. Mishra, who is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), is also a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), which provides advice to the Indian government, and a part-time chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). He will serve in his new role for three years.
