The government of India has planned to establish a National Digital Library for children and young adults in order to ensure the availability of quality books across a range of subjects and to inculcate financial literacy and encourage reading among students. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the establishment of the library during her Union Budget 2023 speech. The digital library will be a combination of physical content, access to matter on the internet and digital technology. She mentioned that physical libraries would be set up at the ward and panchayat level in states and children and adolescents would also have access to the resources of the National Digital Library.
