David Salvagnini has been appointed as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) first chief artificial intelligence (AI) officer in addition to his role as the agency’s chief data officer. His new responsibilities include ensuring NASA makes responsible use of AI in all its projects. He will also ensure NASA employs the latest AI technology in its operations by partnering with industry experts, academic organisations and other institutions. NASA believes this new appointment will advance its missions and bring efficiency to its operations. Before joining NASA as its chief data officer in 2023, Salvagnini was associated with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as director of the architecture and integration group and chief architect.
