N Chandrasekaran, popularly known as Chandra and ‘Marathon Man’, was named chairman of Air India, the former national carrier that was reacquired by the Tata Group almost 70 years after the government took over the original Tata airline and renamed it Air India. Chandrasekaran is also the chairperson of the board of Tata Sons and was recently awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour in India, for his service in the trade and industry category.
