Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Inter-national Airport has become Asia’s first airport to commission a ‘Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit’ (DARK), a facility that enables the quick recovery of stranded aircraft. In case of disruptions and mishaps, this kit will help to lift and tow aircraft, ensuring passenger safety and quick response to disruptions. The DARK facility possesses a maximum capacity of 390 tonnes and is equipped with durable high-pressure lifting bags. In case of accidents, the DARK facility will enable quick and efficient rescue operations so that runway operations can resume fast and there is minimal inconvenience to passengers.
