Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mission Schools of Excellence programme at Dadanagar Convention Hall in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on October 19. With an investment of over `10,000 crores, this project aims at tackling the problems of a lack of teachers and poor quality of teaching infrastructure in Gujarat. Under the first phase of the project, around 1,50,000 smart classrooms, 50,000 classrooms, 20,000 computer laboratories and 5,000 Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) will be set up in government schools.
