Scientists at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, have found that using skin conductance can help in recognising and differentiating between human emotions. This method involves tracking the electric responses of the skin when a person experiences different emotions such as humour, happiness and fear. For their research, scientists exposed volunteers with probes placed on their skin to videos with scenes that triggered different emotions. They recorded and analysed the variations in the electrical properties of the volunteers’ skin and found that it is possible to differentiate between the emotions a person is experiencing. According to scientists, this technique can be used to develop technologies and devices that will recognise human feelings.
