A laptop distribution programme was launched by Jai Ram Thakur, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, under the Srinivasa Ramanujan Student Digital Scheme in which 20,000 meritorious students of Himachal Pradesh received free laptops at a function held in June. ₹83 crore had been allocated for this purpose. Thakur hopes that this programme will encourage other students to perform well academically and win a laptop the next time. In his speech, Thakur said that the provision of quality education to students was being prioritised by the state government with special attention being given to the education of girls.
